Vision Engineering's Mantis Family consists of a unique range of eyepieceless optical inspection systems used for intricate tasks that require high resolution (up to 20x magnification) and offers advanced relief from operator stress and fatigue over long periods of time. Patented eyepieceless technology provides Mantis with an ergonomic advantage over conventional, low magnification microscopes, minimizing eye fatigue and allowing the operator greater freedom of head movement. The product line consists of Mantis Compact, Mantis Elite, Mantis Elite-Cam, Mantis Macro and Lentis, each with unique features explained in detail in the paragraphs below. Advanced features include:

Patented Expanded Pupil System for Unmatched Comfort and Ergonomics

Because traditional eyepiece microscopes are limited to a 3mm exit pupil and the human eye has only a 5-7mm pupil, any repositioning of the eyes result in loss of image. The fixed eyepieces dictate exactly where the technician must put his head and how they must hold their posture - a rigid, unnatural and uncomfortable position which quickly leads to fatigue. The patented design of Vision Engineering ergonomically optimized viewing systems allow for a much greater exit pupil, providing freedom of head and eye movement, a much more comfortable viewing position, and enables the wearing of prescription glasses.

Conventional eyepiece microscopes have an exit pupil diameter of 3mm. If you move outside of 3mm, you lose the image completely. To retain the image, you must hold your head and body in an uncomfortable, fixed position.

Freedom of head movement is achieved in Mantis products by a patented expanded pupil technique that takes the exit pupil of 3mm and expands it to 30mm (38mm in Alpha & much higher in Lynx Systems), in both axis.

Since the optical pupils are larger than each eye pupil, the user is moving his own pupil within the optical path. This allows head movement backward, forward & from side to side for ergonomically optimized viewing.

Low Magnification Stereo Magnifier with a Straight-through View

Mantis Macro, with counter-balanced universal stand and 30° tilting head
facility, for flexibility and ease of use. Straight through in-line view for
optimal hand-eye coordination and maximum working distance.

Unlike other Mantis, which have an upright optical path, Mantis Macro provides straight through in-line viewing which makes the coordination of hand and eye even easier. Mantis Macro offers a straight through in-line view to the subject, similar in operation to a bench magnifier, though with increased optical clarity and magnification. Mantis Macro offers a comparatively high magnification for an in-line stereo viewer making it ideal for tasks which require exceptional hand-eye coordination and increased magnification. Lentis is a state of the art bench magnifier, with high specification optical lens to minimize distortion across the entire field of view. The lens is finished with a multilayer anti-reflective iridium coating to reduce ambient reflection disturbance. Expanded Pupil Eyepieces Offer Exceptional Ergonomics

Alpha is an advanced stereo zoom microscope, ideal for a wide range of both industrial and life science applications. Alpha utilizes Vision Engineering's patented ISIS Expanded-Pupil technology to provide up to 10 times greater freedom of head movement than conventional binocular eyepiece microscopes.
